Gurinder Singh Sangha's New Role at the Asian Games

Gurinder Singh Sangha from Jalandhar has been selected as the umpire manager for the hockey events at the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 18 to October 3, as announced by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF).

Currently, Sangha works as a physical education lecturer at the Olympian Manpreet Singh Government Senior Secondary School in Mithapur.

His extensive experience includes officiating at major international competitions such as the Asian Games, Olympic qualifiers, and the Asia Cup.

Expressing his deep commitment to the sport, Sangha stated, “The day I am taken out of the ground is the day I will breathe my last.” At 54, he continues to be a passionate advocate for hockey, originating from Jandu Sangha in Jalandhar.

His journey in hockey began at the age of 13, and he honed his skills at Doaba Khalsa Senior Secondary School, competing at various levels including school, district, state, and national.

Inspired by his father, a former Air Force member and international hockey player, Sangha aspired to represent his country. Although he faced obstacles that prevented him from achieving that dream, he remained dedicated to the sport by pursuing a career in teaching and coaching.

Throughout his career, he has garnered numerous accolades, further establishing his reputation in the field.
