In a thrilling encounter on Saturday, the Gujarat Titans triumphed over the Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs in Jaipur, thanks to an impressive four-wicket haul from Rashid Khan and a vital performance from seamer Jason Holder.
Rashid's exceptional bowling dismantled the Royals' middle order, while Holder's three wickets contributed significantly to the Royals' collapse. This comprehensive victory propelled the Titans to the second position on the IPL points table.
Rajasthan Royals Struggle in Chase of 230 Runs
Facing a daunting target of 230 runs, the Royals began their innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Sooryavanshi quickly made an impact, hitting a six on the second ball and following it up with two more sixes off Kagiso Rabada.
However, he was dismissed for 36 runs off 16 balls, leading to Dhruv Jurel's entry. Rabada soon took out Jaiswal for just 3 runs, bringing Shimron Hetmyer to the crease. Jurel attempted to keep the chase alive, scoring 22 runs off Siraj in the fifth over.
Rabada struck again, sending Hetmyer back for a mere 6 runs, which brought Ravindra Jadeja to bat. Jadeja started strong, hitting a six and a four off his first two balls.
Rashid Khan, after the power-play, dismissed Jurel for 24 runs and also took out Donovan Ferreira for just 4 runs, leaving the Royals at 99-5 after 10 overs, needing 131 runs from the remaining balls.
The Royals continued to falter, losing wickets consistently. Khan took out Jadeja for 38 runs, while Holder dismissed Jofra Archer for just 5 runs. Holder's next over saw him claim Shanaka for 16 runs and Deshpande for 1 run, sealing a convincing win for the Titans.
Gujarat Titans Set a Massive Total
Earlier in the match, Gujarat Titans posted a formidable total of 229/4 in their 20 overs, thanks to fifties from captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, along with a late surge from Washington Sundar.
Batting first after being put in by RR's stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill scored 84 runs off 44 balls, while Sudharsan contributed 55 runs off 36 balls. Sundar added a quickfire 37 runs off 20 balls.
The Titans finished their innings with a flourish, scoring 21 runs in the final over bowled by Tushar Deshpande, who was hit for three sixes. Gill and Sudharsan's aggressive start helped the Titans reach 82/0 after the powerplay.
Sudharsan reached his fifty off 30 balls, while Gill followed suit, also scoring his fifty off 30 balls. However, Sudharsan was dismissed by Yash Raj Punja, breaking their 118-run opening partnership.
After 11 overs, the Titans were at 119/1. Gill continued to score freely but was eventually dismissed for 84 runs. The Titans crossed the 200-run mark shortly after, finishing their innings at 229/4.
Bowling Performance of Rajasthan Royals
For the Royals, Ravindra Jadeja and Yash Raj Punja were the standout bowlers, with Jadeja taking 1 wicket for 34 runs in 4 overs, while Punja claimed 1 wicket for 37 runs in 4 overs. However, Jofra Archer, Brijesh Sharma, and Tushar Deshpande had challenging outings, conceding runs heavily.
