Ahmedabad: In a thrilling encounter, Shubman Gill showcased his batting prowess with a brilliant 86 runs, leading the Gujarat Titans to a convincing five-wicket victory over the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League on Friday. Gill's performance was complemented by a fierce opening spell from Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, who dismantled the KKR batting lineup, restricting them to a mere 180 runs.

Cameron Green was the standout performer for KKR, scoring a resilient 79 off 55 balls, marking his first notable innings of the season. Despite his efforts, KKR remains without a win in this year's tournament. The match's early stages were pivotal; while KKR stumbled to 37 for 3, Gill propelled GT to a solid 71 for 1, establishing a strong foothold in the chase. From the start, Gill was aggressive, hitting three boundaries, including a stunning straight drive, and a six within the first three overs. His innings was marked by eight fours and four sixes, showcasing his ability to control the game.

Jos Buttler, who came in after Sai Sudharsan's dismissal, continued the momentum by hitting a boundary on his first ball, quickly following it up with a six and another four. KKR's innings began poorly, losing three wickets in the opening four overs, with Rabada and Siraj delivering exceptional bowling. Ashok Sharma (2/45) and Prasidh Krishna (1/32) also contributed effectively. Green, initially struggling, found his rhythm in the middle overs, hitting seven fours and four sixes during his innings. He formed a crucial 55-run partnership with Rovman Powell and a subsequent 60-run stand with Anukul Roy, but ultimately, he faced challenges towards the end as wickets fell around him.
