Maxwell's Stellar Performance

Glenn Maxwell has made a remarkable comeback under the mentorship of coach Ricky Ponting, showcasing his talent with a stunning century in the Major Cricket League. This performance starkly contrasts his previous struggles with the Punjab Kings.

Playing for the Washington Freedom, Maxwell scored an impressive 106 runs off just 49 deliveries, marking his eighth international T20 century. This achievement places him alongside cricketing greats like Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler, as they all share the record for the fourth-most T20 centuries internationally. Notable Australian players such as Aaron Finch and David Warner also share this milestone.

Maxwell's explosive innings took place against the Los Angeles Knight Riders at the Oakland Coliseum in California on June 18. Despite his team's challenges, he remained composed and turned the game around with his performance. He hit two fours and an astonishing 13 sixes, reminiscent of his iconic innings during the 2023 ODI World Cup against Afghanistan.

Reflections on Punjab Kings Experience

Reflecting on his time with the Punjab Kings, Maxwell acknowledged that it was not his best period. However, he credited Ricky Ponting for his unwavering support, which has helped him thrive in the current setup. After the match, he expressed,

"Sometimes things don't go your way; you just need time to find your rhythm. I've let Ricky (Ponting) down in a couple of tournaments. I even missed out on playing for Punjab toward the end of the IPL."

He further added,

"Playing under Ricky, we hopefully have a chance to add to last year's trophy. We tried to stick to that 6 to 8 metre length. Chopping and changing the bowlers helped as well. Netravalkar did well. Adair did well in his first game. You just have to adapt. The attitude in the group has been outstanding."

Maxwell's exceptional performance laid the groundwork for the Washington Freedom's bowlers, who, led by Jack Edwards and Mitchell Owen, took three wickets each to dismiss the LA Knight Riders for a mere 95 runs. With this momentum, they are set to face MI New York on June 22.
