Maxwell Approaches T20I Milestone

Darwin [Australia], August 9: As Australia prepares to face South Africa in the first T20I, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is set to join an exclusive group of players who have achieved over 2,500 runs and 50 wickets in T20 internationals.


The upcoming series, featuring three T20Is and ODIs, will commence this Sunday.


Maxwell requires just four more wickets to reach the 50-wicket mark in T20Is. If he accomplishes this, he will become the fourth player in T20I history to surpass 2,500 runs and secure 50 or more wickets, joining the ranks of Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan (2,551 runs and 149 wickets in 129 matches), Pakistan's Mohammed Hafeez (2,514 runs and 61 wickets in 119 matches), and Malaysia's Virandeep Singh (3,013 runs and 97 wickets in 102 matches).


Currently, Maxwell stands as Australia's third-highest run-scorer in T20Is, amassing 2,754 runs across 121 matches and 111 innings, with an average of 29.29 and a strike rate of 156.03. His record includes five centuries and 11 fifties, with a personal best of 145 not out. He has also taken 46 wickets at an average of 30.08, with his best bowling figures being 3 for 10.


In the current year, Maxwell has played five T20Is, scoring 90 runs at an average of 18.00 and a strike rate exceeding 195, with a top score of 47. He has also claimed three wickets at an average of 21.00, with best figures of 2 for 15.
