Gavaskar Analyzes Mumbai Indians' Struggles in IPL 2026
Gavaskar on MI's Inconsistent Form
Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary cricketer, has expressed his worries regarding the erratic performance of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2026. He emphasized that the five-time champions must secure victories in all their upcoming matches to maintain their chances of reaching the playoffs, especially after suffering a significant defeat against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
CSK's Dominance Over MI
In a recent match, the Super Kings triumphed over their rivals with a commanding 103-run victory, driven by Sanju Samson's impressive century and Akeal Hosein's four-wicket haul. Samson scored an unbeaten 101 runs off 54 balls, featuring 10 fours and six sixes, which helped CSK set a formidable target of 208 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. In response, MI struggled, getting bowled out for just 104 runs, with Hosein taking 4 wickets for 17 runs.
'Heavy Defeats Can Hurt Them'
During a discussion on Star Sports before MI's upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29, Gavaskar pointed out MI's inconsistency this season and noted their batting collapse against CSK. He stated, "MI must win every game from now on, and they have the potential to do so. It’s about finding the right rhythm." He also remarked on the disappointment of their recent performance, saying, "Getting bowled out for around 100 against CSK was disheartening. Such heavy losses can impact them negatively, especially in the competitive race for the fourth playoff position."
MI Face In-Form Sunrisers Next
The Mumbai Indians will aim to recover when they face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who are currently on a four-match winning streak, on Wednesday evening at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
