Gautam Gambhir Opens Up About Coaching Pressures

In Mumbai, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has candidly acknowledged the relentless pressure he faces in his role, irrespective of the team's successes or failures. During a press conference before the team's departure for a five-match Test series against England, Gambhir shared insights into the expectations that accompany his position.

“I constantly feel the weight of pressure, whether or not I have won the Champions Trophy. As a coach, the desire for results is always present, and it doesn't waver with victories or losses,” Gambhir stated.

Despite India recently claiming the ICC Champions Trophy, Gambhir emphasized that this achievement has not alleviated the sense of responsibility he feels. He reflected on previous series, noting that pressure has been a constant throughout his coaching career.

“I have always been under pressure, regardless of our results. If you had asked me after the New Zealand series, I would have confirmed that I felt pressured. The same goes for after the Australia series,” he elaborated.

“Winning the Champions Trophy doesn’t change the pressure I feel. As the coach, I always strive for results. Every match I participate in with this team is crucial for our country,” he remarked.

The Indian team is set to kick off their five-match Test series in England on June 20 at Headingley, marking the beginning of their journey in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
