Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, expressed his admiration for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for inviting the leaders of all three branches of the Indian Armed Forces to the IPL 2025 final, set to occur on June 3 in Ahmedabad.
The championship match will be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This season of the IPL faced a temporary halt on May 9 due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The BCCI's initiative aims to honor the achievements of Operation Sindoor.
In a media interaction, Gambhir remarked, "This is an extraordinary initiative... The BCCI has taken a commendable step to unite the nation and pay tribute to our armed forces... I commend both the BCCI and the Armed Forces for their unwavering support and protection of our country."
Details of Operation Sindoor
On Tuesday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced that invitations have been sent to the Chiefs of all three Armed Forces, along with senior officers and soldiers, for the IPL final on June 3 in Ahmedabad.
Operation Sindoor was India's strategic military response to the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22. Initiated on May 7, this operation resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
IPL Updates
In IPL news, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured the top position on the leaderboard and a place in the qualifiers after defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Monday.
Qualifier 1 is scheduled for May 29 at Mullanpur, where PBKS will face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Additionally, the eliminator match featuring the Mumbai Indians (MI) will also take place in Mullanpur on May 30, where they will compete against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
