Gatka Martial Art Joins Pythian Games: International Competitions Set for Moscow

Gatka's Inclusion in the Pythian Games
The ancient martial art of Gatka has been officially recognized as part of the Pythian Cultural Games. Teams from various nations will compete in Gatka during the International Pythian Games scheduled for next year in Moscow. This significant announcement was made by Bijender Goel, the Chairman of the Pythian Council of India and the founder of the Pythian Games, during the second day of the ongoing 12th National Gatka Championship at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.
During the event, Shantanu Agrahari, IAS and president of the Pythian Council, shared insights about the vision and importance of the Pythian Games.
Delhi MLA Jarnail Singh, the chief guest, praised Gatka's rising status as a sport and its effectiveness in self-defense. He expressed optimism about the future of this traditional sport and encouraged both boys and girls to engage in learning it. He also presented awards to the victorious participants.
Dr. Tejinderpal Singh Nalwa, President of the Asian Gatka Federation and a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India, along with Harjeet Singh Grewal, President of the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), and Sukhchain Singh Kalsani, Acting President, noted that Gatka's inclusion in the Pythian Games is a significant achievement, following its recognition in various national sports events.
Other notable attendees included Kulwinder Singh, Chairman of Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, and representatives from various states, highlighting the widespread support for Gatka.
