Four Arrested Following Deadly Stampede at RCB IPL Celebration

Bengaluru: A tragic stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in the loss of 11 lives during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) inaugural IPL title celebration. The event, organized by the Karnataka Congress government, turned fatal due to overcrowding and alleged mismanagement.
Complaint Lodged at Cubbon Park Police Station
A formal complaint has been submitted at the Cubbon Park Police Station concerning the stampede during the RCB victory celebration. The complaint implicates the RCB management and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for their lack of adequate preparation. Following this, police conducted an overnight operation, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
Arrests Made Among RCB Staff and Event Organizers
In response to the complaint, three individuals were apprehended late Wednesday night. Among those arrested is Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing at RCB, along with Kiran, Sunil, and Sumath, employees of DNA Entertainment, the event's organizing company. Reports indicate that other RCB staff members are currently unaccounted for.
KSCA Officials Missing
The complaint also names officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for their alleged involvement in the incident. However, police sources report that KSCA representatives have been untraceable since the tragedy, prompting authorities to intensify their search as part of the ongoing investigation.
FIRs Filed Against RCB Management
Two FIRs have been registered at the Cubbon Park police station, both accusing the RCB management and KSCA of conducting the event without proper safety measures or planning, which ultimately led to the deadly stampede.
Suspension of Top Police Officials
In light of increasing public and political pressure, several senior police officials have faced disciplinary action. The state government has suspended Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand, Additional Commissioner Vikas Kumar, Central DCP Shekhar, and Cubbon Park Inspector Girish.
Political Repercussions
The opposition has criticized the state government's response, accusing it of using police officials as scapegoats to deflect blame from political and administrative failures. They argue that the tragedy could have been avoided and attribute it to inadequate planning and insufficient crowd control measures.
