Yasin Ayari's Historic Moment

Sweden's midfielder Yasin Ayari made a remarkable entry into the FIFA World Cup by scoring just seven minutes into the match against Tunisia, giving his team an early advantage. While many would celebrate their first World Cup goal with enthusiasm, Ayari chose to refrain from celebrating out of respect. Although he represents Sweden, his father hails from Tunisia. In 2021, Tunisia had invited Ayari to join their squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but he opted to remain loyal to Sweden. His father, Azzouz Ayari, supported this decision, emphasizing the importance of giving back to the country where he was raised.

Azzouz Ayari stated in an interview, "My son had the desire to play for Tunisia, but I encouraged him to represent Sweden, the nation that embraced and nurtured him. It was his responsibility to give back to Sweden." Yasin has always been clear about his allegiance, expressing, “I was born in Sweden and identify as Swedish; it is the country I wish to represent.” Tunisia's coach, Sabri Lamouchi, acknowledged Ayari's decision, stating, “I respect his choice. He is a talented player, and we wish him well after the match.”

Sweden's Impressive World Cup Opener

In an exhilarating start to the World Cup, Sweden secured a convincing victory over Tunisia. Following Ayari's early goal, Alexander Isaq extended the lead with a goal in the 30th minute. Although Tunisia managed to score through Omar Rekik in the 43rd minute, Sweden responded with goals from Viktor Gyokeres in the 59th minute and Mattias Svanberg in the 84th minute, concluding the match with a 4-1 triumph.
