Monterrey, June 15: In a thrilling FIFA World Cup 2026 Group F match at Monterrey Stadium, Sweden showcased their strength with a decisive victory against Tunisia.
Yasin Ayari opened the scoring with a stunning shot from outside the penalty area. Alexander Isak followed up with a goal after a clever assist from Viktor Gyokeres, but Tunisia managed to respond when Omar Rekik scored his first international goal, heading in a beautiful cross from Hannibal Mejbri.
The second half saw Sweden take complete control. Isak intercepted a pass from Ellyes Skhiri, allowing Gyokeres to score and extend the lead to 3-1. Shortly after, Mattias Svanberg, who had just entered the game, increased the margin, and Ayari capped off the match with another impressive long-range goal.
This matchday was particularly notable, as it recorded one of the highest goal tallies in World Cup history, with 19 goals scored on Monday, including Germany's seven earlier in the day.
Sweden took an early lead in the seventh minute thanks to Ayari's powerful strike, which came after a defensive error. They doubled their advantage in the 30th minute when Isak made a swift run and shot, which Tunisia's goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh could not stop despite getting a hand to it.
Although Tunisia managed to pull one back just before halftime, Sweden quickly regained their two-goal lead in the 59th minute due to another defensive mistake from Tunisia. Isak's pressure on Skhiri led to Gyokeres scoring again. Svanberg's late goal, confirmed by VAR, made it 4-1, and Ayari's final goal from outside the box sealed a remarkable win for Sweden.
