Spain's National Team Celebrates World Cup Victory with Massive Parade

Madrid, July 21: Nearly 2 million fans gathered in Madrid to celebrate Spain's national football team, which recently secured its second World Cup title. The festivities included an open-top bus parade that traversed the central streets of the city, culminating at the iconic Plaza de Cibeles.
Spain triumphed over Argentina with a score of 1-0 in the World Cup final held in New Jersey, thanks to a decisive goal from Ferran Torres during extra time, marking a remarkable performance by the team.
Upon their return to Madrid around 1 p.m. local time, the players were greeted with official receptions led by King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, both of whom were present at the final match. The king commended the team's unity, as reported by various sources.
Starting their celebration from the Moncloa Palace, the prime minister's residence, the players boarded an open-top bus and made their way through Madrid, where approximately 1.8 million fans lined the streets to cheer them on.
By 10 p.m., the bus arrived at Plaza de Cibeles, where an additional 120,000 supporters had gathered, entertained by performances from popular Spanish artists.
Throughout the event, players joyfully lifted the World Cup trophy and joined fans in singing and chanting, despite the heat reaching over 35 degrees Celsius. The festivities continued until nearly midnight, with defender Marc Cucurella notably showcasing his drumming skills.
However, the celebrations were marred by a tragic incident on Sunday night, where a 13-year-old fan lost their life in Ciudad Rodrigo after being hit by a fountain during the celebrations. Additionally, police detained three individuals, and around 30 others required medical assistance due to violent outbreaks during festivities in Barcelona.
