Spain Advances as Uruguay Faces Early Exit

Guadalajara: In a crucial match, Spain edged out Uruguay with a score of 1-0, capitalizing on a critical error by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, which allowed them to progress to the knockout rounds of the World Cup while sending the South American giants home.

Uruguay, a two-time World Cup champion, concluded their campaign without securing a single win in their three matches in Group H. Meanwhile, Spain, the reigning European champions, topped the group with seven points and will face the runner-up from Group J, either Austria or Algeria, in their next match on Thursday in Inglewood, California.

The only goal of the match came from Alex Baena in the 42nd minute, following a failed clearance by Muslera, who struggled to deal with the shot from inside the box. This marked the third significant mistake by the veteran goalkeeper during the tournament, leading coach Marcelo Bielsa to substitute him at halftime.

Ranked 19th in the FIFA standings, Uruguay is now the highest-ranked team to be eliminated from the tournament thus far.
