Paraguay Senator Celeste Amarilla Demands Apology from Kylian Mbappe
Controversy Erupts Between Senator Amarilla and Kylian Mbappe
Celeste Amarilla, a senator from Paraguay, has threatened to pursue legal action against French football captain Kylian Mbappe, following his remarks that criticized her earlier statements. Amarilla had previously referred to Mbappe as a "colonised Cameroonian" and accused him of pretending to be French while displaying arrogance and resentment. She claimed that France's victory was merely a stroke of luck and described Mbappe as nervous throughout the match. In response, Mbappe labeled Amarilla as a "despicable woman" unworthy of her role.
In a post on X, Amarilla clarified that her conflict was personal with Mbappe, not with France itself. She expressed her admiration for France, recounting her educational background in a French school and her fondness for the country. "The issue lies between you and me. I have never spoken ill of France; I have always supported it," she stated.
Amarilla Accuses Mbappe of Arrogance
Amarilla criticized Mbappe for his perceived arrogance before and after their FIFA World Cup match. She recalled his comments about getting 'dirty' and accused him of showing contempt for the Paraguayan team. "Your arrogance has been evident, and your disrespectful behavior during the match was unacceptable," she remarked, highlighting an incident where Mbappe allegedly insulted players and failed to acknowledge the Paraguayan goalkeeper after the game.
She expressed her disappointment, stating that respect among rivals is crucial, and Mbappe's actions were a display of poor manners that hurt her and her nation. Amarilla emphasized that France, with its rich history, should hold Mbappe accountable for his conduct.
Amarilla Calls for an Apology
Furthermore, Amarilla demanded that Mbappe retract his comments and apologize. "I will not accept your violence. You have no right to label me as despicable or unworthy of my position. I am a senator elected by the people of Paraguay, and I represent their voice," she asserted.
She concluded her statement by warning Mbappe of potential legal repercussions for his remarks, framing them as gender-based violence. "You offend me because I am a woman, and you must retract your statement and apologize, or I will consider legal action for gender violence," Amarilla stated firmly.
