Neymar's Status for Upcoming Match

Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti has not confirmed whether Neymar will play in the crucial Group C match against Scotland at the FIFA World Cup 2026. However, he did mention that the star forward is fit for selection after recovering from a calf injury. Neymar, who has been absent from the national squad for nearly three years, has rejoined Brazil's World Cup team but has yet to make an appearance in the tournament. The 34-year-old missed Brazil's initial two matches, which included a 3-0 win over Haiti and a 1-1 draw with Morocco.

Ancelotti Discusses Neymar's Fitness

"Neymar is available. He trained this week and can be ready for the match. We are thrilled to have him back because his quality can significantly benefit the team," Ancelotti stated during a press conference on Tuesday. The Italian coach praised Neymar's dedication during his recovery and noted the positive influence he has on the squad, even while sidelined. "I have come to know him well. He has been very serious about his recovery, aiming to return as quickly as possible. I'm pleased with his progress. Even if he doesn't play, he contributes experience and game knowledge, assisting younger players. He is doing exceptionally well," Ancelotti added.

When asked about Neymar's potential playing time, Ancelotti humorously remarked, "He could play 90 minutes—if he were just walking. No, he's in good shape; he trained excellently." If Brazil secures a win against Scotland in Miami, they will advance to the Round of 32. Ancelotti expressed confidence in his team's improvement, stating, "We have a significant responsibility representing this jersey in the World Cup. I believe our first match wasn't our best, the second was an improvement, and we are optimistic that the third will be our best yet."

Previewing the Match Against Scotland

Unfortunately for Brazil, Raphinha will miss the match due to a hamstring injury, leaving Ancelotti without one of his key players. The former Real Madrid manager refrained from revealing who would replace the winger. Scotland, with one win and one loss, is still in contention for a spot in the World Cup knockout stages, either by finishing in the top two or as one of the best third-placed teams. Ancelotti anticipates a challenging match against Steve Clarke's squad, stating, "Scotland possesses quality. They are resilient and well-organized. Players like (Scott) McTominay and (John) McGinn bring valuable experience to this type of game. Therefore, we expect a tough match, as easy games in the World Cup are long gone. We are prepared for a challenging encounter."
