Madrid, April 27: Kylian Mbappe, the forward for Real Madrid, may miss the final five matches of the La Liga 2025-26 season, including a significant encounter against FC Barcelona on May 10. This comes after the club announced that he sustained a muscle injury during the 1-1 draw against Real Betis on Friday night.
Mbappe exited the game with just ten minutes remaining, as Real Madrid was leading 1-0, but Hector Bellerin's late equalizer diminished their hopes of clinching the title this season.
According to the official Real Madrid website, "Following the tests conducted today, Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg."
As is typical with the club, no specific return date has been provided, with the team stating they are "awaiting progress" on the French star, who has netted 24 goals in La Liga this season.
The upcoming World Cup, starting June 11, adds urgency to his recovery, as Mbappe is expected to play a vital role for the French national team.
After experiencing discomfort in his hamstrings during the match against Real Betis, Mbappe requested to be substituted in the 35th minute of the second half and was replaced by Gonzalo Garcia in the 81st minute. The injury was confirmed following examinations on Monday, but the club has not specified a recovery timeline.
Real Madrid stated, "Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappe by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg. Awaiting progress," in a statement released on Monday.
In the match against Betis, Mbappe marked his 100th appearance for Real Madrid. In his second season with the club, he has achieved 66 victories and scored 85 goals across all competitions.
Since his debut on August 14, 2024, he has participated in 62 La Liga matches, 25 Champions League games, 5 Copa del Rey matches, 4 Club World Cup appearances, 3 Spanish Super Cup games, and 1 UEFA Super Cup match.
