East Bengal Crowned Champions


East Bengal (EB) has finally claimed the Indian Super League (ISL) title for the first time in 22 years, concluding a thrilling season on a high note. In a nail-biting final match held at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on May 21, the Kolkata club overcame Inter Kashi with a score of 2-1, despite initially trailing. The match began with Alfred Planas putting Kashi ahead in the 14th minute, leaving EB behind at halftime.


However, the second half saw a turnaround as Youssef Ezzejjari netted the equalizer just four minutes after the break, followed by Mohammed Rashid scoring the decisive goal in the 72nd minute, securing the victory for the Red and Gold Brigade.


East Bengal finished the season tied on points with their rivals Mohun Bagan (MB), both teams ending with 26 points from 14 matches, including seven wins, five draws, and one loss. The title was awarded to EB based on a superior goal difference of 19 compared to MB's 11.


In their final match, Mohun Bagan managed to defeat SD Delhi 2-1, scoring a late equalizer in the 89th minute and clinching the win in stoppage time. Mumbai City FC secured third place after a 2-0 victory over Punjab FC, while Bengaluru FC and Punjab finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Jamshedpur rounded out the top six after a goalless draw against Odisha FC.
