Delhi Capitals Suffer Crushing Defeat Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026
Delhi Capitals' Disastrous Performance
The Delhi Capitals (DC) faced a humiliating defeat in IPL 2026, getting bowled out for just 65 runs against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 27. This dismal performance came just two days after they struggled to chase a target of 265 runs, failing to even reach the 100-run mark. At one point, it seemed they might challenge RCB's record for the lowest total in IPL history, which stands at 49, but they narrowly avoided that fate, finishing at 75 runs.
Axar Patel, visibly frustrated, expressed his confusion over the team's performance, stating, "I still don’t understand what happened. Everyone says that in cricket, you must stay alert every day and keep repeating the same efforts." He added, "When moving to the next match, you have to let go of this one and move forward. If I reflect on today, one might think luck changed after the GT game, but I believe such thoughts will always linger."
In this match, Sahil Parakh made his debut but faced a tough start, lasting only two balls against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Josh Hazlewood dismissed KL Rahul, while Sameer Rizvi was out for a duck. As wickets continued to tumble, DC managed to score only 75 runs, with Abhishek Porel being the top scorer with 30 runs off 33 balls. RCB lost just one wicket early on but maintained control throughout the match. Virat Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 23, sealed the victory for RCB with consecutive sixes.
RCB now holds 12 points with a net run rate of +1.1919, placing them in a strong position, while Sunrisers Hyderabad follows with 10 points. Rajasthan Royals, with five wins, are also in contention.
Josh Hazlewood Named Player of the Match
Josh Hazlewood earned the Player of the Match award, reflecting on the unexpected outcome after a high-scoring previous game. He remarked, "I think, probably turning up here after 500-plus runs last game, probably weren't expecting what happened, but it feels like Bhuvi and I have been pretty close to producing a really good powerplay. I just followed his lead again, and what happened, happened, so it was a great result." Hazlewood has taken 8 wickets in just 5 matches this season, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Eshan lead the wicket-taking charts with 14 wickets each.
RCB's next challenge is against the Gujarat Titans on April 30 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. As the defending champions, RCB is showcasing their prowess this season. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals will return to action against the Rajasthan Royals on May 1 in Jaipur, where RR plays most of their home matches. Currently, Punjab Kings lead the IPL 2026 points table.
