Chelsea Football Club Parts Ways with Head Coach Enzo Maresca
Chelsea's Coaching Change Announcement
London [UK], January 1: Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the departure of their head coach, Enzo Maresca, as of Thursday.
The club's statement read, “Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.”
This decision comes as Chelsea currently sits fifth in the Premier League standings, having secured eight victories, drawn six times, and suffered five defeats, totaling 30 points—15 points behind league leaders Arsenal. In their last five matches, the team has drawn three, won one, and lost one.
“During his tenure, Enzo achieved notable success, including winning the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. These accomplishments will be remembered as significant milestones in the club's recent history, and we express our gratitude for his contributions,” the statement continued.
With crucial objectives still ahead in four competitions, including the pursuit of Champions League qualification, both Enzo and the club believe that a change is necessary to enhance the team's chances of turning the season around. We wish Enzo the best in his future endeavors,” the statement concluded.
Enzo led Chelsea to triumph in the 2024-25 UEFA Conference League and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, while also guiding them to the UEFA Champions League. Currently, the team is positioned 13th in the league, with three wins, one draw, and two losses, accumulating 10 points.
Previously, the 45-year-old coach expressed concerns about a lack of support from certain club factions following a recent victory over Everton in December, stating, as reported by a sports news outlet, “This is why I commend the players; despite numerous challenges, they are performing admirably after a tough week. The last 48 hours have been the most challenging since I joined the club, as many did not back us.”
His last match in charge was a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth. Chelsea's next challenge will be against Manchester City on Sunday.
