71st Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament Set to Begin
Tournament Overview
Guwahati, October 27: The 71st edition of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament is set to commence on Tuesday, featuring 232 clubs and approximately 6,960 players from across Assam.
Tournament Structure
This event is being organized by the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) in collaboration with the District Sports Associations of Assam and is supported by the Assam Cricket Association. The tournament will unfold in three distinct phases: the District Round, Cluster Round, and Final Round.
District Round Details
The District Round is scheduled from October 27 to November 5, taking place throughout the state. Each district will feature eight teams, with the district champions awarded Rs 75,000.
Cluster Round Information
Following this, the Cluster Round will occur from November 11 to 15, divided into six clusters: Upper Assam, Northern Assam, Central Assam, Lower Assam, Barak Valley, and the Capital Region. Each cluster will host six teams, with the champions and runners-up receiving Rs 1 lakh and Rs 75,000, respectively.
Final Round and Venue
The final round is set to take place at Judges’ Field in Guwahati from November 20 to 29, featuring 16 teams, including 12 district qualifiers and four invited teams, all vying for the championship title.
Event Logistics
The tournament will span 30 venues and is expected to include matches from 29 districts. The opening ceremony is planned for October 27, while the closing ceremony will occur on November 29.
Cluster 6 Inauguration
Cluster 6 of the 71st Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy 2026 will kick off at the GTC Football Academy Ground in Fulung, North Guwahati, on Tuesday, as per a press release.
Former Santosh Trophy player Annada Das will be the chief guest for the inauguration at 1 pm.
The opening match will feature Assam Police facing off against Hawk Football Academy.
