Real Madrid President Comments on Player Dispute

Madrid [Spain], May 13: Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, spoke out regarding the recent training ground incident involving teammates Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni. He remarked that such conflicts are not uncommon but expressed frustration over the media leak concerning this sensitive issue.

During a press conference, Perez addressed various topics, including Barcelona's recent victory over Real Madrid, which secured them back-to-back La Liga titles. He specifically mentioned the physical confrontation between Valverde and Tchouameni, which resulted in Valverde sustaining a head injury.

As reported by a sports news outlet, Perez stated, “It’s not the first time players have clashed here. There have been seasons filled with disagreements. These things happen!”

He expressed his displeasure that the details of the altercation were made public, saying, “While the argument was unfortunate, the real issue is that it was leaked. We’ve had disputes every year, sometimes multiple, but they’ve never been disclosed before.”

Perez emphasized, “The leak is more concerning than the disagreement itself. Players can reconcile after a dispute, share a coffee, and move on. However, a leak like this is unacceptable,” adding that the club is aware of who disclosed the information to the press.

The conflict reportedly began when Valverde refused to shake Tchouameni's hand before training. As tensions escalated, Valverde ended up with bruises and cuts, which were not caused by a direct hit from Tchouameni.

A crisis meeting was convened in the locker room, according to reports. Valverde required stitches for a deep cut but was later reported to be recovering well at home, needing 10-14 days of rest. Following an internal review, both players were fined 500,000 euros, and the disciplinary matter was resolved, as stated in a recent announcement.

Perez also touched on the potential return of Jose Mourinho, who previously managed the club from 2010 to 2013, leading them to a La Liga title and a Copa Del Rey victory. With Alvaro Arbeloa having a trophyless season, speculation about Mourinho's return has surfaced. However, Perez did not provide any concrete details.

“We are not at the stage of discussing Mourinho’s return yet; our priority is to ensure Real Madrid is owned by its members. I want to engage with them and hear what they have contributed to the club,” Perez concluded. “I will refrain from discussing coaches or players at this time, as my focus is on returning the club’s assets to its members,” he added.
