Finn Allen's Record-Breaking Performance
In the inaugural match of Major League Cricket, Finn Allen showcased his batting prowess by hitting an impressive number of sixes, setting a new world record for the most sixes in T20 cricket. Despite not being picked by any IPL team for the past three years, his recent performance has compelled IPL franchises to reconsider their stance.
Playing for the San Francisco Unicorns, the New Zealand opener dismantled the Washington Freedom bowling attack at the Oakland Coliseum on Friday. He surpassed Chris Gayle's long-standing record for the most sixes in a T20 innings. Allen scored a staggering 151 runs off just 51 balls, including 19 sixes and 5 fours, breaking the previous record of 18 sixes held jointly by Chris Gayle and Estonia's Sahil Chauhan.
Allen reached his half-century in a mere 20 balls and continued to accelerate, completing his fourth T20 century in just 34 balls. This marks the fastest century in MLC history, surpassing Nicholas Pooran's record of 40 balls set last season.
In IPL 2021, Allen was signed by RCB as a replacement for Josh Philippe, but he did not get a chance to play. He entered the auction again the following year, yet no franchise showed interest in him.
