Finn Allen Breaks T20 Sixes Record in Major League Cricket Opener
Finn Allen's Record-Breaking Performance
In a stunning display, New Zealand's Finn Allen eclipsed Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes in a T20 match during the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 opener. Allen's explosive innings led the San Francisco Unicorns to a commanding 123-run victory over the Washington Freedom.
Allen scored an impressive 151 runs off just 51 balls, hitting a remarkable 19 sixes. This achievement surpassed the previous joint-record of 18 sixes held by Gayle (against Dhaka Dynamites in 2017) and Sahil Chauhan (against Cyprus in 2024).
A Historic Milestone in MLC
Achieving the 150-run mark in just 49 balls, Allen set a new record for the fastest century in T20 cricket, previously held by Dewald Brevis, who reached 150 in 52 balls during a South African domestic match in 2022.
Out of his total score, Allen accumulated 134 runs from boundaries, with 114 of those coming from his 19 sixes. Only a few players, including Gayle, Hazratullah Zazai, and Graham Napier, have scored more runs through boundaries in a T20 innings. His score of 151 is now the highest individual score in MLC history, surpassing Nichola Pooran's previous record of 137* against Seattle Orcas in the 2023 final.
Unicorns' Dominance in the Match
Allen reached his century in just 34 balls, marking the second-fastest century in a T20 franchise league, trailing Gayle's 30-ball record set against Pune Warriors in the IPL in 2013.
The Unicorns collectively hit 28 sixes, the second-highest total by a team in a T20 match, only behind Baroda's 37 sixes against Sikkim in December of the previous year. They managed to hit at least one six in 16 of the 20 overs.
With a total of 269/5, the Unicorns set a new record for the highest team score in MLC history, becoming the first team to surpass the 200-run mark in the United States. The previous record was 245/6, achieved by the West Indies against India in 2016.
