Financial Dispute Arises Between Jason Gillespie and PCB After Coaching Departure
Conflict Over Payments Between Gillespie and PCB
New Delhi [India] - Former head coach of Pakistan, Jason Gillespie, is currently embroiled in a financial disagreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following his exit from the position in December, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.
The ex-Australian fast bowler claims he is owed compensation for his services and has accused the PCB of violating multiple terms of his contract. Conversely, the PCB has alleged that Gillespie failed to provide the required four-month notice before his resignation, which is stipulated in their agreement.
Gillespie has reached out to the PCB to resolve the outstanding payments, which he asserts include bonuses for guiding Pakistan to a Test series victory against England in October and a 2-1 ODI series win over Australia in November 2024. He has escalated the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC), although it remains uncertain if the ICC can intervene.
After Gary Kirsten's resignation from the ODI team due to disagreements with the board, Gillespie took over on an interim basis. He reportedly had written assurances from the PCB regarding his financial compensation, which have yet to be fulfilled.
In response to Gillespie's comments made during an interview with Pakpassion, the PCB issued a statement denying the allegations regarding unpaid dues. A spokesperson for the PCB emphasized that Gillespie left his role without adhering to the four-month notice requirement, which constitutes a breach of contract. The contract clearly outlined this notice period, which Gillespie was aware of.
Recently, Gillespie criticized Pakistan's interim head coach Aaqib Javed for allegedly undermining him during his tenure and for attempting to secure his position across all formats.
Reports indicate that the relationship between Gillespie and the PCB had deteriorated well before his resignation, with his removal from the selection panel occurring two months prior. Following this, his responsibilities were downgraded to that of a 'matchday strategist.'
