FC Goa Secures Victory in AFC Challenge League
On Tuesday, FC Goa achieved a 2-1 victory against Fortis FC from Bangladesh during their second match in Group C of the AFC Challenge League 2026-27, held at the Mohammed Al Hamad Stadium in Hawally, Kuwait. This win was crucial for the AIFF Super Cup champions, who had previously suffered a 1-2 defeat to FC Regar-TadAZ from Tajikistan, keeping their hopes alive in the tournament.
Looking ahead, FC Goa is set to compete against Qadsia SC from Kuwait on Friday, aiming to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. Progression to the last eight will be granted to the group winners and the best second-placed team across all three groups in the West Zone, as per a statement from AFC Media.
Early Goals and Intense Action
FC Goa displayed an aggressive approach right from the beginning, with Muhammed Nemil missing a chance after a quick counter-attack. They took the lead in the sixth minute when Udanta Singh Kumam delivered a precise cross to an unmarked Jorge Ortiz, whose header was deflected into the net by Ananta Tamang.
Ortiz remained a constant threat, shooting wide shortly after and forcing a save from Fortis goalkeeper Sujan Perera in the 14th minute. Sandesh Jhingan narrowly missed scoring from the resulting corner. Fortis FC attempted to equalize in the 36th minute, but Lara Sharma denied Pa Omar Babou's long-range shot, and Essa Jallow's header from Babou's cross was blocked, leaving Goa with a narrow lead at halftime.
Thrilling Second Half with Late Drama
After the break, FC Goa intensified their efforts to extend their lead. Francisco Feuillassier set up Jhingan for a header, but Perera was quick to clear the danger in the 52nd minute. The Fortis goalkeeper was again called into action in the 61st minute, saving a long-range attempt from Malsawmsanga KC as they absorbed the pressure.
Fortis FC managed to equalize in the 78th minute when Stephen Chukwude played a through ball to Rafayel Tudu, who skillfully evaded his marker and scored past Lara.
However, FC Goa responded swiftly, regaining the lead in the 85th minute. Feuillassier made a penetrating run before passing to Chiki, who expertly lifted the ball over Perera into the top left corner.
The match ended on a sour note for Fortis, as Essa Jallow received a red card in the seventh minute of stoppage time after accumulating two yellow cards for fouling Udanta.
