Fakhar Zaman's Ban Upheld: What This Means for Lahore Qalandars
Pakistan Super League's Decision on Fakhar Zaman
Lahore: The technical committee overseeing the Pakistan Super League has decided to uphold the two-match suspension of opener Fakhar Zaman, following his appeal regarding a ball-tampering incident during a recent match.
After reviewing all pertinent evidence, the committee confirmed the ban initially imposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who had charged Zaman with a level three offense for altering the ball's condition.
As a result, Zaman will be absent from the Lahore Qalandars' upcoming matches against Multan Sultan on Friday and Islamabad United on April 9.
In his appeal, Zaman argued that there was insufficient evidence to prove he tampered with the ball, and thus, the suspension should be lifted.
The match referee conducted two hearings with Zaman following the game between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings.
During the final over of the Karachi Kings' innings, umpire Faisal Afridi requested the ball from Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and pacer Haris Rauf, who were gathered together.
After examining the ball alongside fellow umpire Shujauddaula, a five-run penalty was imposed on the Qalandars, and the ball was replaced.
This penalty, which Shaheen protested, meant that Karachi Kings needed nine runs in the last over, a target they achieved in just three balls, clinching a thrilling victory.
