The latest episode of WWE NXT on The CW confirmed that the TNA World Championship will be contested at the upcoming NXT Battleground premium live event. The official match announcement will follow a contract signing scheduled for next week's episode of WWE's developmental brand.

TNA World Champion Joe Hendry is set to defend his title against Trick Williams at Battleground. The contract signing to finalize this match is slated for the WWE NXT episode on Tuesday, May 13.

Recently, Hendry and Williams have been involved in a rivalry, appearing on both TNA and NXT shows. This prompted WWE NXT General Manager Ava to officially announce their Battleground match during this week's episode, where the faction Darkstate triumphed over Hendry and NXT Tag Team Champions Hank Walker & Tank Ledge in a six-man tag team match.

Next week, WWE NXT Champion Oba Femi will also compete in a non-title match against Charlie Dempsey. Dempsey's stablemate Myles Borne recently won a number-one contender’s battle royal, earning a title shot against Femi at Battleground.

In a backstage segment, Dempsey tried to claim the title shot for himself while interacting with Borne and Femi. Ultimately, Borne retained his title shot, while Dempsey inadvertently set up a one-on-one match with Femi for next week's WWE NXT, aiming to showcase his skills. Additionally, Wes Lee will face Tony D’Angelo in another match announced for the show.
