Major Announcement for Women's T20 World Cup 2026
London [UK], May 1: The ICC has officially confirmed seven venues for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, set to take place in England next year. The prestigious final will be held at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 5, as stated on the ICC's official website.
This announcement was made during a launch event at Lord’s, where it was disclosed that matches will also be played at Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford, The Oval, and Bristol County Ground.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on June 12 and will last for 24 days, featuring a total of 33 matches leading up to the grand finale at Lord’s.
The complete schedule for the tournament will be released soon.
With an expanded lineup of 12 teams—the largest in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup—this edition is expected to be highly competitive as top teams compete for the coveted title.
Eight teams, including hosts England, Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies, have already qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Four more teams will secure their spots through the Qualifier set for next year.
The 12 participating teams will be divided into two groups of six for the initial stage, followed by knockout rounds and the final.
ICC Chair Jay Shah remarked, “The confirmation of venues marks a significant milestone as we prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. This tournament will unite the world’s top players in a celebration of talent, spirit, and sportsmanship.”
He added, “The UK’s rich diversity has always shown enthusiastic support for all teams, as seen in past events. The sold-out Women’s Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s in 2017 was a landmark moment for women’s cricket, and I can’t think of a more appropriate venue for the final. As we gear up for the tournament, we are thrilled by the prospect of exciting T20 matches that will not only engage local fans but also highlight cricket’s return to the Olympic stage in Los Angeles 2028.”
Richard Gould, Chief Executive of the ECB, expressed, “We are incredibly excited about the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 and are delighted to confirm the seven iconic venues for the tournament. Announcing that the final will take place at Lord’s is particularly special, as it is one of the premier venues in world cricket, and every cricketer dreams of participating in a World Cup final there.”
He continued, “This will be the largest women’s cricket event ever held in England and Wales, providing an opportunity to reach more fans than ever before, both young and old. Importantly, this isn’t just about scale; it’s about delivering a world-class experience for players, fans, and broadcasters, ensuring that the tournament reflects the elite performance of the athletes on the field. We aim for this competition to be part of a long-term movement, fostering a new generation of fans who may not have grown up with women’s cricket but will envision a future where it is integral to sports.”
The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will celebrate its 10th edition, having first commenced in 2009.
The most recent tournament, held in Bangladesh in the UAE in 2024, saw New Zealand clinch their inaugural title by defeating South Africa by 32 runs in the final.
