Day One Highlights of the Championship
The 72nd Senior Nationals Men's Kabaddi Championship kicked off on February 24 at the Sama Indoor Complex in Vadodara, Gujarat, showcasing a blend of seasoned players and rising stars who made impactful starts to their respective campaigns.
A total of 29 teams are competing in this championship, organized into eight pools. On the inaugural day, eight matches took place across Pools A to H, with Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Indian Railways, and Gujarat all securing wins in their matches.
Individual performances were particularly noteworthy, with Mitesh Prajapati from Gujarat scoring an impressive 21 points, significantly contributing to his team's success. Vidarbha's Adesh Warkhade also shone brightly, achieving 28 points, although his team narrowly lost by four points.
In Pool A, Chandigarh showcased their strength with a commanding 76-32 victory over Jharkhand, marking a 44-point win. Pool B featured last year's runners-up, Indian Railways, who triumphed over Odisha with a 73-23 scoreline, thanks to Narender Kandola's 16-point contribution that kept his team comfortably ahead.
The Pool C clash between Punjab and Gujarat was tightly contested, with Gujarat narrowly winning 46-44. Tamil Nadu delivered one of the day's most impressive performances in Pool D, defeating Manipur 75-16 for a 59-point victory. In another Pool D match, Uttar Pradesh edged out Vidarbha by four points, led by UP Captain Arjun Deshwal, who scored 15 points and previously starred for Tamil Thalaivas in the Pro Kabaddi League season 12.
In Pool E, Haryana claimed victory over Andhra Pradesh with a score of 49-32, while Jammu & Kashmir also secured a win against Telangana, finishing 43-34. The Pool F match between Kerala and Bihar was closely contested, with Bihar winning by a narrow three-point margin.
