This international tournament is scheduled to take place from June 26 to 28 at Star Pickleball in Kuching, aiming to draw over 1,300 players and enthusiasts, making it one of the largest events of its kind in the region.

Organized by the Precision Pickleball Club, the championship boasts a prize pool exceeding RM80,000 and is expected to attract participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, and the United States. As reported by local media, this event is part of broader efforts to accelerate the growth of pickleball in Sarawak and promote the state as a burgeoning sports tourism hub.

Jason Tie Sin Wan, the secretary of Precision Pickleball Club, stated, “The tournament is designed to enhance the local pickleball ecosystem and create opportunities for players of various ages and skill levels.” He noted that nearly 50% of the target registrations have already been achieved, indicating the sport's rising popularity both in Malaysia and globally.

“This tournament aims to foster the rapid development of pickleball and strengthen the sports community in Sarawak,” Tie added. The event will feature nine competition categories, catering to players from novice to advanced levels, including novice doubles, intermediate doubles, open doubles, Masters doubles for players aged 45 and above, and team tournaments.

The championship is part of a larger pickleball surge across Asia, with new clubs, courts, and competitions emerging rapidly. In recent years, participation in pickleball has skyrocketed in Malaysia.

In addition to the competitive aspect, organizers anticipate significant economic benefits from sports tourism, as the event will attract athletes, families, and spectators to Kuching for three days. With confirmed worldwide participation and ongoing registrations, the Pickleball Freak Championship 2026 is set to be one of the largest gatherings of pickleball enthusiasts ever held in Malaysia, marking a pivotal moment in the sport's expansion in the region.
