New Delhi, [India] June 10: The first overseas draft list for the upcoming season 15 of the Big Bash League (BBL) has been announced, featuring notable players like Pakistan's captain Mohammad Rizwan, fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, along with all-rounder Shadab Khan, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.
The draft is scheduled for June 19, with Brisbane Heat securing the top pick, giving them the initial opportunity to select a player. Other prominent names in the draft include England's Sam Curran and Alex Hales, New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee, Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera, and West Indies' Shamar Joseph, making up a total of ten players in this initial list.
In the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), Indian cricketers Shikha Pandey and Jemimah Rodrigues have been nominated, alongside West Indies' Deandra Dottin and Pakistan's Fatima Sana.
Also included are England's Lauren Bell, Sophie Ecclestone, Heather Knight, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, along with South Africa's Shabnim Ismail and Chloe Tryon.
This year's BBL and WBBL drafts have been moved to June to enhance clarity for clubs regarding player selections. Over 600 international players have registered for both leagues.
Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers will each have the first choice in their respective drafts this season. Each draft consists of four rounds, allowing each team to make one selection per round.
Teams can select players from four different salary bands for foreign players: Platinum (rounds 1 or 2), Gold (rounds 2 or 3), Silver (rounds 3 or 4), and Bronze (round 4 only). Teams must make at least three selections, including pre-signed players, but can opt to pass once.
Teams have already started building their rosters, with pre-signed foreign players including Jamie Overton and Laura Wolvaardt (Adelaide Strikers), Colin Munro and Nadine de Klerk (Brisbane Heat), Chris Jordan (Hobart Hurricanes), Tim Seifert and Hayley Matthews (Melbourne Renegades), Tom Curran and Marizanne Kapp (Melbourne Stars), Finn Allen and Sophie Devine (Perth Scorchers), Amelia Kerr (Sydney Sixers), and Sam Billings and Chamari Athapaththu (Sydney Thunder).
