Stump Mic Highlights and Stellar Performances

The inaugural Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley not only showcased exceptional cricket but also provided fans with a delightful glimpse into the lively banter captured by the stump microphone, featuring India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant and captain Shubman Gill.

On the second day, while Ravindra Jadeja was bowling, Pant was overheard on the stump mic exclaiming after a diving stop: “Main bhi khel raha hoon bhai! Apne chauke ke chakkar mein mera chauka mat de dena!” (I’m also playing, brother! Don’t send me for a four while trying to prevent one).

Gill, not wanting to miss out, added his commentary from the slips during a tense over against Ben Duckett, remarking: “Abhi ye pura confused hai Jaddu bhai! Kaunsi seedhi hai, kaunsi udhar. Aayega iska! Abhi isko kuch pata nahi lag raha.” (He’s completely confused, Jaddu bhai! Doesn’t know which ball is straight and which one will turn. His wicket is coming! He’s utterly clueless right now).

As the banter kept the atmosphere lively, India's first innings provided ample reasons for celebration. Shubman Gill achieved a remarkable career-high score of 147, while Rishabh Pant made a strong comeback with an impressive 134, marking his seventh Test century.

By the conclusion of the second day in Leeds, Jasprit Bumrah showcased his brilliance, yet England's batters, led by centurion Ollie Pope, managed to reach a commendable 209 for three.

Pope (100 not out) and Harry Brook (0) were at the crease when play was halted, with England reducing India's lead to 262 after the visitors posted 471 in their first innings.
