Exciting Matches Unfold at WTT Feeder Series in Vadodara
Thrilling Upsets and Strong Performances Mark Day One
Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], January 7: In a surprising turn of events, Sarthak Arya and Hardee Patel triumphed over the third-seeded duo of Snehit Suravajjula and Sayali Wani with a score of 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, securing their place in the second round of the mixed doubles qualifying at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Feeder Series 2026. This event, hosted at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex, is presented by the Sports Authority of Gujarat.
The inaugural WTT Feeder Series in Vadodara is organized by the Table Tennis Association of Baroda and executed by UTT, according to a press release.
During the singles group stage, top players including Yashansh Malik, Sanyog Kapali, and Jash Modi in the men's category, as well as Selena Selvakumar, Nithya Mani, and Sampada Bhiwandikar in the women's category, all secured victories in their opening matches.
Yashansh Malik faced a tough challenge from Preyesh Suresh, winning 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 14-12, 11-8 in Group 1. Sanjoy Kapila dominated Harsh Merotha with a score of 11-1, 11-6, 11-3 in Group 2, while Jash Modi showcased his skills with a commanding 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 victory over Nepal's Rubin Maharjan in Group 3.
In the women's singles, Selena triumphed over Mukta Dalvi with scores of 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 in Group 1. Nithya Mani edged past Sammridhi Banik 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9 in Group 2, and Sampada Bhiwandikar made a comeback from a 1-2 deficit to defeat Naisha Rewaskar 11-8, 8-11, 11-13, 11-5, 12-10 in Group 3.
In Group 5, the promising Tanishka Kalbhairav overcame Yashini Sivasankar with scores of 11-7, 12-10, 11-6, while Senhora D'Souza faced defeat against Aafrien Murad in Group 6 with scores of 7-11, 11-13, 7-11.
Earlier, the youthful pair of Dhairya Parmar and Anusha Kutumbale defeated Rajiv Sahu and Pranati Ramesh 11-5, 5-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8 in the first round of mixed doubles qualifying, and they are set to compete against the second seeds Abhinandh Pradhivadhi and Nithya Mani next.
