Day Two Highlights from Jalandhar

On August 13, the second day of the 15th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship unfolded in Jalandhar, Punjab, showcasing thrilling performances. Teams such as Kerala Hockey, Le Puducherry Hockey, Chhattisgarh Hockey, and Goans Hockey secured victories in Division 'C', while Hockey Chandigarh, Hockey Uttarakhand, and Delhi triumphed in Division 'B' matches.


The action kicked off with a Division 'C', Pool A match where Kerala Hockey demonstrated their prowess, defeating Telangana Hockey with an impressive score of 8-3. Captain Muhammed Kaif (14', 57') and Adity Kumar (17', 28') each netted two goals, while Akshay Anil (14'), Shalik K S (21'), Rohit Kushwaha (22'), and Arjun Krishna M L (53') contributed to the scoreline. For Telangana, Pradeep Kodapa (3', 29') and Aggu Manoj (30') managed to find the back of the net.


In another Pool A clash, Le Puducherry Hockey secured a 4-0 victory over Tripura Hockey. Captain Keerthivasan (28', 59') scored twice, with Illamaran (24') and Madhavan (34') also adding to the tally.


Chhattisgarh Hockey showcased a dominant performance in Pool B of Division 'C', overwhelming Hockey Gujarat with a staggering 13-0 score. Mohit Nayak was the standout player, scoring six goals (6', 10', 28', 30', 31', 33'). Other contributors included Om Kumar Yadav (36', 55', 57'), Karan Kumar Sahu (13', 38'), Captain Anand Kumar Suryavanshi (18'), and Avinash Ekka (58').


Goans Hockey rounded off the Division 'C' matches with a 4-2 win against Hockey Raj in Pool B. Krish Shyam Gaunkar (3', 47') and Tushar Sharma (23', 57') each scored twice, while Hockey Raj's Manvendra Gurjar (31') and Mohammad Ubaid Raza (41') found the net.


In Division 'B', Hockey Chandigarh triumphed over Hockey Jammu & Kashmir with a score of 7-2. Satnam Singh was the star of the match, scoring five goals (22', 26', 28', 36', 47'). Dheeraj (10') and Moohamed Jaeed (15') also contributed to the win, while Captain Rajveer Singh (49', 58') scored both goals for Hockey Jammu & Kashmir.


Hockey Uttarakhand continued their success by defeating the Hockey Association of Bihar 3-1 in Division 'B'. Mahendra Singh Bisht was the hero, scoring a hat trick (32', 36', 40'), while Nandlal Shah (9') scored the lone goal for Bihar.


Lastly, Delhi maintained their winning streak with a narrow 1-0 victory over Hockey Bengal in Pool B of Division 'B'. Yuvraj Singh (40') scored the decisive goal from a penalty corner in the third quarter.
