Day 5 Overview of the Championship

On August 16, the 15th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship continued in Jalandhar, Punjab, featuring a total of seven matches across two divisions. Teams from Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Delhi emerged victorious in Division 'B', while Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab claimed wins in Division 'A', as reported by Hockey India.


Division 'B' Match Highlights

The opening match of Division 'B' saw Chandigarh triumph over Himachal with a score of 5-3. Gurjeet Singh was the standout player, netting four goals (35', 48', 51', 56'), while Sharandeep Singh added another (23'). For Himachal, Anubhav Rangra (52'), Anuj (6'), and Tanish Kumar (39') each contributed a goal.


In a thrilling encounter, Jammu & Kashmir edged out Hockey Arunachal 5-4, with captain Rajveer Singh scoring all five goals (13', 23', 46', 53', 60'). Hockey Arunachal's goals came from Shatish Kumar Thakur (21'), Vivek Yadav (9'), Abhi Rajbhar (42'), and Amarjeet Singh (38').


Delhi secured a solid 3-0 victory against Hockey Uttarakhand, with Bhanu scoring twice (7', 38') and Yuvraj Singh adding another (50').


Division 'A' Match Highlights

Division 'A' matches commenced on the same day, starting with Hockey Karnataka's impressive 10-1 win over Hockey Andhra Pradesh. Harpal (12', 35') and Tanish Ramesh Hulakund (17', 56') each scored two goals, while Dhruva BS (25'), Achaiah MM (24'), Kushal Bopaiah CB (51'), Raju Manoj Gayakwad (5'), Nitesh Sharma (10'), and Poojith K.R (58') contributed one goal each. Patan Asad Musfin Khan (29') scored the only goal for Andhra Pradesh.


Hockey Haryana also had a successful outing, defeating Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey 3-0, with goals from Nitin (19'), Chirag (58'), and Sunil (59').


Uttar Pradesh Hockey showcased their strength with a 9-2 victory over Hockey Maharashtra. Ujjwal Pal (17', 26') and Mithalesh Yadav (8', 57') each scored twice, while Satyam Pandey (56'), Fahad Khan (25'), Akash Pal (53'), Manoj Yadav (60'), and Venvanshi Triloki (6') added to the tally. For Maharashtra, Arjun Santosh Hargude (30') and Kartik Ramesh Patare (48') found the net.


The final match of the day featured Hockey Punjab against Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, where Punjab triumphed 8-4. Amandeep (21', 29'), Lovenoor Singh (43', 52'), Charanjeet Singh (5'), Jobanpreet Singh (53', 54'), and captain Gursewak Singh (44') scored for Punjab, while Akash K (12') and Manimaran V (21, 27, 40) scored for Tamil Nadu.
