Exciting Fourth Edition of Pickleball Slam Set for April 2026
Overview of the Upcoming Event
The fourth installment of the Pickleball Slam is scheduled for April 15, 2026, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Florida. This year, tennis legend Andre Agassi will return to defend his flawless 3-0 record, facing off against newcomer James Blake, while they team up against Anna Leigh Waters and Genie Bouchard in a thrilling $1 million winner-takes-all showdown. The competition will consist of three matches: Blake versus Waters, Agassi against Bouchard, and a doubles match featuring both teams. This marks the inaugural “Battle of the Sexes” in the event's history, as well as the first appearance of a full-time pickleball star in Waters.
The event is a collaborative effort between Horizon Sports & Entertainment and GSE Worldwide, designed as a high-stakes television spectacle inspired by golf’s “The Match.” Jon Venison shared insights into its inception, stating, “This event originated when Dave [Levy] reached out to me five years ago to discuss creating an iconic event in what is now the fastest-growing sport in the USA: Pickleball.” David Levy emphasized the goal of replicating the excitement of “The Match” within the realm of pickleball, highlighting the need for authenticity to engage players and fans alike.
“We believe there’s potential for short-term success with these entertaining exhibitions, but not for the long haul… if it’s merely a celebrity showcase, the energy won’t be the same,” Venison remarked, underscoring the significance of competitive spirit over exhibition appeal. This year signifies a pivot towards featuring the sport's core athletes. “It was essential to integrate Pickleball stars into this event. Otherwise, we risked it becoming just a ‘tennis legends trying a new sport’ affair,” Venison noted.
Waters, a leading figure in women’s pickleball, will partner with Bouchard, who has quickly ascended into the top 10 rankings. The Canadian athlete shared her strategy ahead of her match against Agassi, stating, “In singles, movement is crucial… my aim is to make him move while being aggressive with my shots. Andre has a powerful backhand, so I’ll focus on attacking his forehand. I perform best when I play aggressively… I enjoy hitting the lines and cutting off angles.” Regarding doubles preparation, she added, “I plan to play on the right side… I’ll be solid there and set her up for scoring opportunities.”
Blake is gearing up for a challenging match against Waters, acknowledging, “I know this isn’t just a casual game… she’s going to take this very seriously… she’ll aim to outplay me. That’s fine; I thrive on competition and challenges.” His game plan is straightforward: “If I get into a cat-and-mouse situation with ALW, I’ll be in trouble, so I’ll leverage my tennis power and groundstrokes to compete.” On the doubles front, he mentioned, “We’ve practiced a few times… once [Agassi] gets into the game, he really gets into it.” The event will be broadcast live on ESPN on April 15.
