Rugby Premier League Season 2 Auction Concludes in Hyderabad

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 30: Following a successful inaugural season in 2025, the Rugby Premier League has wrapped up its Season 2 Player Auction and Draft in Hyderabad on Thursday, in collaboration with Rugby India.

All participating franchises have successfully assembled competitive teams in preparation for the upcoming season.

In a historic move for Indian rugby, women's franchises also took part in the Auction and Draft, with Chennai Bulls, Mumbai Dreamers, Kolkata Banga Tigers, and Delhi Redz forming their first-ever squads.

The competitions for both men and women will take place at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 16 to 28.

This Auction and Draft represented a significant advancement for the league, with six men's and four women's franchises strategically creating balanced teams that include a blend of seasoned international players and promising Indian talent.

The men's teams, including Delhi Redz, Hyderabad Heroes, Kolkata Banga Tigers, Chennai Bulls, Mumbai Dreamers, and Bengaluru Bravehearts, made their selections. Notably, Sumit Kumar Roy from West Bengal became the highest-paid Indian player, securing Rs 3.75 lakh with Hyderabad Heroes, followed closely by Mohit Khatri at Rs 3.5 lakh with Chennai Bulls, and Deepak Kumar Punia and Prashant Arvind Pratap Singh, who were both acquired for Rs 2.75 lakh by Delhi Redz and Kolkata Banga Tigers, respectively.

In the Women's Auction and Draft, the Chennai Bulls, Mumbai Dreamers, Kolkata Banga Tigers, and Delhi Redz established their inaugural squads, enhancing the competitive nature of the Rugby Premier League. Shikha Yadav from Delhi emerged as the highest-paid player at Rs 2.4 lakh for Delhi Redz, followed by Bhumika Shukla at Rs 2.2 lakh with Mumbai Dreamers. Nirmalya Rout and Amandeep Kaur were also signed for Rs 1.6 lakh by Kolkata Banga Tigers and Chennai Bulls, respectively, completing the top purchases across the four teams.

With the squads finalized, teams will now focus on pre-season training as the Rugby Premier League continues to gain traction as one of the leading rugby platforms in the country.
