Hockey India League Set to Kick Off in January


Bhubaneswar: The much-anticipated Hockey India League (HIL) for the 2025-2026 season is set to commence in Bhubaneswar on January 17, with ticket sales officially starting on Tuesday at 11:00 AM IST. In an exciting move, Hockey India has announced that entry will be free for fans eager to experience the matches live.


The grand finale of the league is scheduled for January 26.


Dilip Tirkey, chairperson of the HIL Governing Committee, expressed enthusiasm about the league's return to Bhubaneswar, stating, "The excitement among local hockey fans is palpable as they look forward to watching their favorite players live. By offering free tickets, we hope to draw more spectators to the stadium and enhance the overall experience of thrilling hockey matches."


Bhola Nath Singh, another member of the HIL governing committee, encouraged fans to attend the matches, saying, "The league will conclude in Bhubaneswar on January 26, and we anticipate a vibrant turnout. Our goal is to expand the fanbase for hockey across various regions, and we expect the final to be a full house."


The league will showcase eight men's teams and four women's teams, promising fast-paced and exhilarating games with newly revamped formats.


Currently, in the Men's HIL, the Kalinga Lancers are at the top of the points table during the initial phase in Chennai, having kicked off their campaign with a 4-2 victory at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium on Sunday.


On the women's side, the SG Pipers have secured their place in the finals as the table leaders, following a victory by the Soorma Hockey Club over the Ranchi Royals on Monday.
