Chacarra's Historic Victory
Eugenio Chacarra etched his name in history by becoming the first Spanish golfer to win the Hero Indian Open, finishing with a score of 1-under 71 on the final day. The Indian trio of Veer Ahlawat, Gaganjeet Bhullar, and Om Prakash Chouhan all secured spots in the top 20.
Ahlawat, who was the runner-up last year, carded a 75, while Chouhan shot a 71, and Bhullar recorded a 73, placing them all in a tie for 17th. Bhullar faced a challenging end to his round for the second consecutive day, suffering a bogey and a double-bogey in the last three holes. Ajeetesh Sandhu, who was the highest-ranked Indian after the third round, finished tied for 31st with a score of 78.
Other notable performances included Shubhankar Sharma at T-43 with a score of 75, Shaurya Bhattacharya at T-54 with 79, and Shiv Kapur, who tied for 60th with Kshitij Naveed Kaul after both scored 83. Sachin Baisoya finished 64th with 82, Jairaj Singh Sandhu was 65th with 81, Saptak Talwar placed 66th with 88, and Aman Raj rounded out the field in 67th with a score of 85.
Chacarra's victory marked a significant milestone as he secured his first title on the DP World Tour, finishing with an impressive total of 4-under 284. The 25-year-old golfer, who received a special invitation from Hero MotoCorp to participate, started the final day with a double-bogey but managed to maintain his lead, ultimately winning by two strokes over Japan's defending champion, Keita Nakajima, who finished with a score of 72.
"It was a challenging day. We anticipated a long day filled with pressure, and my start wasn't ideal. However, I remained patient throughout the week, understanding the course's nuances, especially with the wind conditions," Chacarra commented.
