On Monday, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya extended his congratulations to Indian shooter Esha Singh for her remarkable achievement of winning a silver medal in the women's 25m pistol individual event at the Asian Games 2026.

Mandaviya expressed his joy on social media platform X, stating, "Heartiest congratulations to Esha Singh on winning the Silver Medal in the Women’s 25m Pistol Individual event at the #AsianGames2026."

Thrilling Final Shoot-off

Esha clinched the silver medal after an intense shoot-off against China's Xiao Jiaruixian. Both competitors finished with 38 points, but Xiao secured the gold after the second shoot-off, while North Korea's Kim Hyon Suk took home the bronze with 34 points.

Esha started strong, hitting all five targets in her opening series and maintaining her lead with four hits in the second series. However, she fell to second place after scoring three hits in the next round, allowing Xiao to take the lead with 13 points.

Esha fought back with four hits in the following series, tying with Xiao at 16 points after 20 shots. After 25 shots, both remained tied at 20 points, with Kim joining them at the top.

In the next series, Esha dropped to third but quickly regained her footing with a five-hit performance. After 40 shots, Xiao and Kim were tied at 32 points, while Esha had 31.

To determine the silver and bronze medals, Esha entered a shoot-off against Kim. Both shooters scored three hits in the first two series, but Esha outperformed Kim in the next round, hitting three targets to Kim's two, thus securing at least the silver medal.

In the gold-medal shoot-off against Xiao, both shooters had finished with 38 points after the regular final and the first shoot-off, necessitating another five-shot contest. Xiao narrowly won, hitting three targets compared to Esha's two, resulting in Esha taking home the silver.

India's Overall Medal Count

This silver medal marks India's 39th medal at the ongoing Asian Games, contributing to a total tally of four gold, 17 silver, and 18 bronze medals.
