Erling Haaland Sets Premier League Record with 100 Goals in Record Time
Haaland Achieves Milestone in Premier League
Erling Haaland has etched his name into the annals of Premier League history by becoming the quickest player to net 100 goals in the league. The Manchester City forward accomplished this feat in just 111 matches during a game against Fulham at Craven Cottage on December 2.
The Norwegian striker scored in the 17th minute, converting a cutback from Jeremy Doku after previously hitting the post. This goal not only gave City an early lead but also secured Haaland's place in the record books, surpassing Alan Shearer's previous record of 124 matches to reach the century mark. He is now the 35th player to enter the exclusive 100-goal club in the Premier League.
Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Haaland has broken numerous records. He was the fastest to achieve 20 goals (in 14 matches), 30 goals (in 27 matches), 40 goals (in 39 matches), and 50 goals (in 48 matches). In his inaugural season, he set the record for the most goals in a single Premier League season, scoring 36 goals in 35 appearances. His remarkable consistency has established him as one of the most formidable strikers in global football.
At just 25 years old, Haaland has already scored 15 league goals this season, placing him at the top of the scoring charts in England's premier division. Overall, he has tallied 33 goals in 24 matches across all competitions for both club and country, showcasing his exceptional scoring rate.
This achievement has reignited conversations about Haaland's potential to surpass Shearer's all-time Premier League record of 260 goals. Former England international Tim Sherwood expressed his belief in 2023 that Haaland possesses the capability to break Shearer's record. Sherwood emphasized Haaland's physical prowess, adaptability, and the strength of Manchester City's squad as key factors contributing to his success.
Sherwood remarked, "Haaland has already outpaced last season's Golden Boot winners, Son Heung-min and Mo Salah, who scored 23 goals each, while he has already reached 25. If he maintains his fitness, he will undoubtedly break the record. He is simply phenomenal. Physically, he is a powerhouse. He can run, finish with both feet, and is competent in the air. He also has excellent support around him."
Sherwood further commended Haaland's decision to join Manchester City, labeling it the ideal environment for a world-class player under Pep Guardiola. He referred to Haaland as the "final piece of the puzzle" for City's Champions League aspirations, citing his impressive record in European competitions as a testament to his influence.
