Erling Haaland Credits Pep Guardiola for His Goal-Scoring Evolution
Haaland's Growth Under Guardiola
New Delhi, December 23: Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has expressed his admiration for manager Pep Guardiola, attributing a significant part of his development as a prolific goal scorer to the coach's guidance. Currently, City holds the second position in the league standings with 37 points, achieved through 12 victories, one draw, and four losses.
Reflecting on Guardiola's impact, Haaland noted that the manager has been instrumental in enhancing the nuances of his positioning on the field.
“Since I joined City, Pep has played a crucial role in helping me refine my movements and find the right spots to score. He’s a genius, and his mentorship has been vital in my growth as a goal scorer. Working with him has been an incredible experience,” Haaland shared during an interview on JioStar.
The 25-year-old also discussed the pressures that come with high expectations at a young age, where fans and analysts often anticipate his scoring in every match. He emphasized the importance of tuning out external distractions and maintaining a focused mindset.
“I try not to dwell on others' expectations. It’s essential for me to keep a clear mind and avoid overthinking. Pressure is always present, but I prefer to stay in my own zone and concentrate, regardless of the situation. Even when things don’t go as planned, I remind myself to keep perspective and simply give my best,” he explained.
Haaland also highlighted the significance of discipline off the pitch and how lifestyle adjustments have shaped his routines. He mentioned that becoming a father has introduced new responsibilities but has also helped him remain grounded and focused.
“My life has shifted somewhat since becoming a father, leading to new routines and responsibilities compared to previous seasons. For me, it’s all about maintaining high energy, staying motivated, and doing what’s best for my body and mind to be ready for whatever comes next,” Haaland concluded.
