England's Jamie Overton Out of ODI Series Due to Finger Injury
Injury Sidelines Jamie Overton
England's all-rounder Jamie Overton will miss the remainder of the One-Day International (ODI) series and the upcoming Vitality T20 Internationals against the West Indies due to a fracture in his right little finger. This injury occurred during the first ODI at Edgbaston, as reported by a sports news outlet.
The 31-year-old suffered the injury while attempting to catch a sharp return from Keacy Carty on just his second delivery. The impact forced him to leave the field for immediate medical assistance.
Despite the injury, Overton returned to the game and delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking three wickets, including those of Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, and Gudakesh Motie, finishing with remarkable figures of 3 for 22 in 5.2 overs—his best in ODI cricket.
Unfortunately, the injury has now ruled him out for the rest of the series, and he will start a rehabilitation program with the England medical team.
Currently, no replacement has been announced for Overton in the ODI squad. However, England has backup pace options available, including Matthew Potts and Luke Wood, along with Tom Hartley, a left-arm spinner, as a potential addition.
The second ODI between England and the West Indies is set for Sunday in Cardiff, followed by the final match of the series on Tuesday at The Kia Oval. The teams will then prepare for the T20I series, which kicks off on Friday at Chester-le-Street.
