England Secures Victory in Leeds Test

In the opening match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy held in Leeds, England emerged victorious against India. The Indian team set a challenging target of 371 runs, but the English batsmen successfully surpassed this score. Ben Duckett was the standout performer, scoring an impressive 149 runs. Despite KL Rahul's commendable 137 runs and Rishabh Pant's contributions, India's efforts fell short.

Three Centuries Yet Not Enough

After England won the toss and chose to field, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the batting for India. They provided a solid start, accumulating 91 runs before Rahul was dismissed for 42. Jaiswal went on to score a century, followed by Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, leading India to a total of 471 runs. England's Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue each took four wickets, while Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir claimed one wicket each.

In their first innings, Ben Duckett set the tone with 62 runs, and Harry Brook narrowly missed a century with 99 runs after being dropped twice. Ollie Pope also contributed significantly with a century. Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul limited England to 465 runs, giving India a slight lead of six runs heading into the second innings.

England Dominates the Second Innings

India's second innings began with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, but Jaiswal was dismissed early. Shubman Gill, who had scored a century in the first innings, also fell quickly. However, twin centuries from Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul helped India reach 364 runs, setting England a target of 371. Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue each took three wickets, while Ben Stokes managed just one.

England's chase started strongly with openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett putting on 188 runs. Duckett's 149 and Crawley's 65 ensured a comfortable win for England. Despite the earlier success of Ollie Pope and Harry Brook, who scored 8 and 0 runs respectively in the second innings, Joe Root's half-century helped seal the victory.
