England Football Team Announces Squad for Friendlies Against Uruguay and Japan
England's Squad Selection for Upcoming Friendlies
London, UK - March 20: The head coach of the England football team, Thomas Tuchel, has revealed the roster for their upcoming friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan, as reported by a leading sports outlet. Notably, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been left out of the 35-man squad, while Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo have received their first call-ups under Tuchel's management.
This training camp marks England's final opportunity to evaluate players ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The team is set to face Uruguay on March 27, followed by a match against Japan on March 31 at Wembley Stadium in London.
Despite Tuchel selecting 10 forwards, Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins will not participate. Strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Leeds and Dominic Solanke from Tottenham have been included alongside Harry Kane.
Manchester United's Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo are among the players called up, while Luke Shaw has been excluded from the squad.
Regarding the decisions to omit Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ollie Watkins, and Luke Shaw, Tuchel commented, "I understand these are difficult choices for Trent, Ollie, and Luke. Such tough decisions are part of the role," as reported by the sports outlet.
For the initial friendly against Uruguay, only 24 players from Tuchel's squad will report, with the remaining 11 joining later for the match against Japan, as the manager aims to balance squad demands with a busy domestic schedule.
