England Dominates India in Final T20I, Clinching Series 4-0
England's Bowling Shines in Series Finale
In a commanding performance, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid led England to a 56-run victory over India in the fifth and final T20I at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday. This win allowed England to secure a 4-0 series victory after the first match was abandoned due to rain. India's newly appointed captain, Shreyas Iyer, is still in search of his first win as the team was thoroughly outplayed in the series.
India's Chase Falls Short Despite Strong Starts
Set with a target of 258 runs, India began their innings with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. However, the visitors faced an early setback when Jofra Archer dismissed Sharma for just 3 runs in the third over, bringing Ishan Kishan to the crease.
Samson and Kishan managed to stabilize the innings, pushing the score to 55 runs after 5 overs. Unfortunately, Curran struck again in the final over of the power-play, sending Samson back for 27 runs off 14 balls, which brought Iyer to bat.
Iyer and Kishan kept the momentum going with regular boundaries until Liam Dawson dismissed Iyer for 28 runs off 16 balls, allowing Tilak Varma to join Kishan, who had just reached his fifty.
Kishan's innings ended in the 13th over when Rashid took his wicket, with Kishan scoring 56 runs off 35 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes.
Dube soon followed Kishan back to the pavilion, falling to Curran for 14 runs. Varma, the standout performer for India, was dismissed by Josh Tongue in the 18th over after scoring 53 runs off 25 balls, which included three fours and four sixes.
Ultimately, India managed to score only 201 runs, losing the match by 56 runs.
Buttler and Brook Propel England to a Massive Total
Earlier in the match, England's Jos Buttler and Harry Brook showcased an impressive batting display, leading the team to a formidable total of 257 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. After winning the toss and opting to bowl, India secured an early wicket when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Phil Salt for 6 runs in the second over.
However, that was the only success for India as England's batsmen took charge of the innings.
Captain Harry Brook, batting at No. 3, quickly formed a partnership with Buttler, helping England reach 62 runs for 1 wicket by the end of the Powerplay.
As the innings progressed, Buttler and Brook accelerated their scoring, targeting India's bowlers with aggressive shots. They reached 100 runs in the 10th over, with Buttler and Brook combining for 25 runs in one over against Axar Patel.
Brook continued his assault, scoring 24 runs in the 14th over, while Buttler added 21 runs in the 15th over.
Buttler reached his century in just 51 balls, hitting a six off Axar Patel in the 16th over, which also yielded 20 runs, bringing England's score to 209.
Shivam Dube provided India with two quick wickets in the 19th over, dismissing Buttler and Jacob Bethel. However, England had already set a daunting target, finishing their innings at 257 runs.
Buttler led the charge with a remarkable 131 runs off 64 balls, while Brook supported him with an explosive 95 runs off just 35 balls.
India entered this match after a series of disappointing performances in the previous three matches.
