England Cricketers Opt Out of IPL 2025: Key Updates

England Players Withdraw from IPL 2025

Three English cricketers have chosen not to return to India for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton, and Sam Curran will miss the upcoming matches. In contrast, Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell are expected to arrive in India on the night of May 14 to fulfill their IPL commitments.

An official from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed to a media outlet that players like Buttler and Livingstone will be returning, while others have opted out. This decision was made by the players themselves and supported by their respective franchises.

The Rajasthan Royals clarified that Jofra Archer's absence is due to an injury rather than the team's playoff status. Archer sustained a thumb injury during a match against KKR, and the franchise is prioritizing his recovery with this decision.

The ECB and IPL teams have indicated that while some England players will return to India, others will conclude their participation in IPL 2025.

Jos Buttler is set to join the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad by Wednesday night. Will Jacks, currently with the Mumbai Indians, is anticipated to resume training at Wankhede Stadium on May 15. Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell are also on their way back to India. Meanwhile, RCB is still uncertain about Phil Salt's plans.

Chennai Super Kings have officially announced that Sam Curran and Jamie Overton will not be rejoining the team. The franchise has decided to continue with their current roster for the remainder of the season after being eliminated from playoff contention.

Moeen Ali, a player for KKR, remains undecided about his return. His father, Munir Ali, mentioned that a final decision will be made soon.

The ECB has selected Archer, Bethell, Buttler, Jacks, and Overton for the ODI series against the West Indies, scheduled for May 29, June 1, and June 3. Consequently, these players will leave India after the league stage concludes on May 27, missing the IPL playoffs.

IPL 2025 will resume on May 17 in Bengaluru following a one-week hiatus due to the India-Pakistan conflict. The playoffs are set to begin on May 29, with the final match on June 3, coinciding with the ODI series between England and the West Indies.
