Tim Southee Joins England's Cricket Team as Consultant

England's cricket team is set to host India for a five-match Test series at home. In a significant move, the England and Wales Cricket Board has appointed former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee as a specialist skills consultant. This announcement was made on Thursday.

The Test series will kick off on June 20 in Leeds, culminating with the fifth Test at The Oval from July 31 to August 4.

Having announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2024, Southee will join the England squad ahead of their first match of the international season against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge next Thursday. Throughout his career, he has taken 391 wickets in 107 Test matches, 221 in 161 ODIs, and 164 in 126 T20 internationals. The ECB stated that his extensive experience in various conditions and formats will provide valuable insights to the players. Following his advisory role, he will participate in The Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix.

It is noteworthy that the Indian team will feature many young players, as captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli have retired. Additionally, Ravichandran Ashwin is no longer part of the Test squad. Thus, the tour to England poses a significant challenge for the Indian team. Meanwhile, the absence of Tim Southee from the England camp could complicate matters for India.
