Emerging Football Stars Poised to Rival Legends Ronaldo and Messi
New Generation of Football Talent
In Mumbai, Indian football star Sandesh Jhingan expressed his belief that young talents like Lamine Yamal, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe have the potential to reach the heights of football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He emphasized that their success will largely depend on their discipline and motivation.
Jhingan, who plays for FC Goa and serves as an expert for a streaming platform during the FIFA World Cup, highlighted the remarkable achievements of these players. Alongside Ronaldo and Messi, the spotlight is on 18-year-old Lamine Yamal, France's all-time leading scorer Mbappe, and Norway's prolific scorer Haaland, who has set numerous records in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with Manchester City.
Discussing the age differences among these players, Jhingan noted that while Yamal is just starting his international career, Mbappe has consistently elevated his performance on the world stage, particularly during World Cups.
He remarked, "Yamal is still quite young, and after EURO 2024, he will have his first major tournament. In contrast, Mbappe has proven himself internationally, especially in World Cups, where he consistently raises his game. Haaland, despite his team's previous struggles, has shown his talent, especially after their recent victory against Senegal."
This World Cup has seen Mbappe become the second-highest goal-scorer in FIFA World Cup history with 16 goals, trailing only Messi, who has 18. Additionally, Mbappe has surpassed Olivier Giroud to become France's leading goal-scorer with 60 goals.
Yamal made headlines recently by becoming the eighth-youngest goal-scorer in FIFA World Cup history at just 18 years and 343 days. His goal came just 14 days younger than Messi's first World Cup goal.
Yamal's achievement is significant as he is only the second player under 18 to score for his country in a World Cup match, following the legendary Pele.
Haaland, known for his scoring prowess at Manchester City, made a strong debut in the World Cup, scoring twice against Iraq and again against Senegal, making him one of the few players to score multiple goals in their first two World Cup matches.
Jhingan pointed out that the real challenge for these young stars is to maintain the longevity and consistency that Ronaldo and Messi have demonstrated over the past two decades. He stated, "What Messi and Ronaldo have achieved is extraordinary. If Mbappe or Yamal want to reach that level, they must sustain it for another 20 years, which is a daunting task. However, they possess the talent and tools necessary to succeed."
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of motivation and discipline, suggesting that while he sees potential in all three players, Haaland might have the edge in mindset.
